• One of only 37 V8 Zagato Volantes produced
• One of just six converted by Aston Martin to Vantage specification
• Factory manual gearbox and formerly part of the nine-car Hunter Green Collection
The renewed collaboration between Aston Martin and Zagato produced one of the most distinctive and exclusive grand tourers of its era. Following the introduction of the V8 Zagato Coupé, the open Volante made its debut in 1987, combining dramatic Italian styling with the character and performance of Aston Martin’s celebrated V8.
Although an initial production run of 25 cars was envisaged, only 37 Zagato Volantes had been completed by the time production ceased in 1990.
This exceptional right-hand-drive example, chassis SCFCV81Z2KTR30043, was completed for the 1989 model year and first registered in 1990 as G909 CPL. Its factory build record confirms the particularly desirable specification of Hunter Green coachwork with Tan hide, green carpets edged in Dark Green and a manual gearbox.
G909 CPL formed part of the remarkable Hunter Green Collection: nine late-production V8 Aston Martins, each ordered in the same distinctive combination of Hunter Green with Tan hide. The collection encompassed many of the most significant models of the period, including the V8 Saloon, Vantage, Volante, Lagonda, Vantage Volante, Prince of Wales-specification Vantage Volante, V8 Zagato Coupé, V8 Zagato Volante and Virage. The collection remained together until 2005, when it was dispersed at the annual Bonhams Aston Martin sale at Newport Pagnell.
Originally completed in standard-power specification, this car was subsequently returned to Aston Martin for conversion to full Vantage specification. It is one of just six Zagato Volantes understood to have received this conversion, gaining the formidable 432 bhp V580X engine and characteristic bonnet power bulge. Its engine, V/580/0043/X, was built by Mick Wilson.
The combination of Zagato styling, factory manual transmission, Vantage performance and exceptional Hunter Green Collection provenance makes G909 CPL a particularly significant example of this already rare model.
